Neurosurgery department in Sancti Spíritus shows positive results

Neurosurgery in Sancti Spíritus  demonstrates results that seemed unattainable just a few years ago, featuring sustained progress in highly complex procedures—such as vascular aneurysm surgery that are the fruit of decades of work, research, and specialist training.

Jorge Félix Companioni Rosildo—a first- and second-degree specialist in Neurosurgery, full professor, and researcher—is among the professionals who have made this growth possible. He achieved this by combining outstanding clinical practice with the training of the next generation, which now ensures the continuity and development of this medical specialty in the province.

“I have been associated with the service as a specialist since 1998. Personally, it represents a professional achievement and a privilege; it is a matter of continuity. When I first joined the service, I saw these young people who were initially our students and learned from us; they advanced their skills and now work alongside us in surgery. They have even made contributions that are not seen everywhere in the world—or even in every neurosurgery department in Cuba. It is a source of pride for us, one that is solidified by a system of continuous education.”

This type of procedure represents one of the greatest challenges in modern neurosurgery, as it requires operating with extreme precision on the brain’s blood vessels to treat aneurysms, the rupture of which causes severe hemorrhaging.
