Contributions of the recent rains to the reservoirs in Sancti Spíritus

Recent rainfall in the Sancti Spíritus region brought slight improvements to local reservoirs, yet the amounts were insufficient to reverse their critical state following the bulk of the traditional wet season.

Odelvis Otero Corvo, a technician at the local Water Resources operations center, noted: “Reservoir levels currently stand at 32 percent capacity. The La Zaza reservoir, with a total capacity of 920 million cubic meters, holds only 241 million, representing 26 percent fullness. The Lebrige reservoir, with a capacity of 102 million cubic meters, holds 42.731 million, or 42 percent. The Tuinicú reservoir—one of the most important for the population—is at 100 percent capacity.”

The source added that the situation regarding dams and reservoirs in Sancti Spíritus remains critical despite the slight improvement. “It is worth noting that the other dams are well below capacity. The rainfall primarily benefited Tuinicú and Siguaney. Most reservoirs are below 50 percent capacity.”
