The young art scene is celebrating
A children’s event in the El Rastro neighborhood of the city of Yayabo featuring the exuberant joy of the clown Lil Alelí is one of the activities honoring the four-decade anniversary of the Hermanos Saíz Association.
According to Lis Laura Castillo, the organization’s provincial president in Sancti Spíritus, the events planned for this anniversary—which began on September 1 will continue through October 18.
The programming is being bolstered this Sunday with the start of the “Electrical Support Week” for the *Casa del Joven Creador* (House of the Young Creator).
We’re starting with K-pop—Korean dance—which is currently one of the biggest draws for young people.
The *Casa de la Trova* is hosting a concert by the group Ilú in honor of the Hermanos Saíz Association. On the 18th, we want to hold a massive event called “Painting the Street.”
What will it entail? We’re going to close off the street; all the local institutions and shops will move their activities outdoors. We’ll host a huge event for children featuring the clowns Violeta and Pipeta, and the literature group will also work with the kids on literary activities.
The street itself will be the canvas—whether for painting or writing poetry—creating a massive creative space right there.
Activities will continue afterward—including literary sessions and exhibitions—though they will fall outside the scope of the specific cultural celebration week.
The entire program is dedicated to the work of Sisto Edelmiro Bonachea, a musician and researcher who maintained close ties with the creative efforts of emerging artists.
That day, we will recognize several members, as well as our “Mentor to Youth” (*Maestro de Juventudes*), Ernesto Valdés, and Sixto Edelmiro. We also plan to honor Juanelo, whom we have nominated as a “Mentor to Youth.” The Hermanos Saíz Association marks its first four decades of existence on October 18.
