Legalizing love is Everyone’s right

More than 140 unions between people of the same sex have been formalized until the end of April in the Civil Registries and Notaries of the province of Sancti Spíritus, since the new Family Code came into force in September 2022.

According to Marisely Quintero Rodríguez, head of the Provincial Directorate of Justice in the territory, 62 marriages have taken place between women and 78 between men.

She explained that, to get married, homoparental couples must be over 18 years of age; They must carry their identification card and if they are single or if they have been married previously, they must present the divorce certification.

The municipality where the most unions of this type have taken place is in Sancti Spíritus and, according to Quintero Rodríguez, the joy is indescribable for the couple and their families.
