ETECSA faces severe mobile and fixed-line connectivity problems.
The Telecommunications Company in Sancti Spíritus is facing a complex situation regarding mobile and landline connectivity due to fuel shortages and equipment failures in some photovoltaic systems.
Gustavo López Cruz, Head of the Commercial Department, explained: “The municipalities facing the greatest difficulties today are Fomento, La Sierpe, Taguasco, and Jatibonico. Yaguajay is experiencing some service disruptions, though to a lesser extent. The root cause lies in the combination—as I mentioned—of a lack of fuel for generator sets and instability in the electrical grid.
“On the other hand, the municipalities of Sancti Spíritus, Trinidad, and Cabaiguán are maintaining greater service stability, as these three areas are protected and prioritized when fuel is allocated for power generators.”
Etecsa Sancti Spíritus is exploring the installation of new, higher-capacity solar panels as an alternative to alleviate persistent communication issues. “We are going through a critical period due to the lack of fuel for generators and prolonged power outages across the National Electric System. Faced with this scenario, our strategy has been clear: we have focused our efforts on maximizing the operational lifespan of telecommunications centers by utilizing the batteries available at each site.
“This allows us to protect transmission systems; crucially, we have deployed an emergency network to prioritize essential communications for the health, transport, and interior sectors, ensuring the necessary response capability for the most critical situations arising in the municipality.”
