“Urban October” events in Sancti Spíritus will go beyond heritage preservation

As is tradition, the “Urban October” observance takes place from October 1 to 31.

Luis Puerto González, the provincial delegate for Territorial and Urban Planning, provided details about the event. “Every year, we observe World Habitat, Environment, and Urbanism Month. It is an initiative aimed precisely at fostering the preservation of urban heritage, enhancing city resilience, and carrying out projects designed to improve people’s standard of living.”

The official discussed the activities planned for the month. “Throughout the month, we will be holding a series of events—including seminars, meetings, and visits to sites of architectural and heritage significance.

“We are taking this opportunity to involve students in their first, third, and fourth years of the intermediate technical program in territorial and urban planning. Naturally, these activities include visits to the city’s iconic landmarks—not only so they can appreciate the architectural richness of our heritage, but also so we can teach them how to apply best practices in conservation and restoration.”

While the sites in Trinidad and the town of Sancti Spíritus are the most iconic, the observance is also gaining ground in other areas. “Here, we focus primarily on Trinidad and Sancti Spíritus, although activities are held across all municipalities—in every municipal seat and in all urban settlements of significant importance—as part of the event.”
