The sublime music of Sancti Spiritus

Looking back at history, it is said that the first septet founded in Sancti Spíritus was Septeto Machado, which first performed its music in 1924.
Septeto Machado emerged from the “La Yaya” Clave Choir to support Gerardo Machado’s presidential campaign. Its existence was short-lived and it failed to achieve recognition for its aesthetic appeal.
Shortly thereafter, founded by guitarist Valeriano García, the group emerged, bearing the name of its director and subsequently, with the natural changes in members and repertoire, known to this day as Septeto Espirituano.
Ninety-nine years ago, the Septeto de Valeriano García, later Septeto Espirituano, was founded on June 10, 1926, at a private party at the residence of Dr. Mario García Madrigal, this being the landmark of the group’s constitution and public approval.
