Passion for Literature

Today is the birthday of the outstanding writer Julio Miguel Llanes López.
Writer and cultural promoter. Researcher, storyteller specialized in children’s and young people’s narrative. Assistant professor at the Pedagogical University of Sancti Spíritus, Cuba. He has been jury of the most important literary contests in his country. His books have won several prizes and mentions in national literature contests in Cuba: “La Edad de Oro”, “Ismaelillo” of the UNEAC, “La Rosa Blanca”, Casa de las Américas Recommendation, among others.
He was born on March 13, 1948 in the municipality of Yaguajay. He is a founding member of UNEAC and for 20 years he presided over the Sancti Spíritus Provincial Committee.
He holds the national awards Distinction for National Culture and Distinction for Cuban Education.
He was the main promoter and organizer of the Encuentros de Crítica e Investigación de Literatura Infantil in Sancti Spíritus, an international event held in the city of Yayabo since 1988; and considered the most deeply rooted and traditional of that activity in Cuba.
He is currently a member of the “José Martí Cultural Society” and Honorary Member of the Association of Pedagogues of Cuba; he is also an Illustrious Son of Yaguajay, his hometown.
