The President Miguel Díaz-Canel held Meetings with United Russia Party Officials

The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, yesterday held a meeting with Dimitri Medvedev, president of the United Russia Party and vice-president of the Russian Security Council.
“We noted the progress and results of the relations between our parties and the work potentialities we still have,” Diaz-Canel added, through the social network X.
“Although it is brutally cold outside, this cold does not interfere with our warm relations; once again we cordially welcome you to the Russian Federation,” Medvedev expressed to the Cuban President, upon receiving him, and congratulated him on the 64th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Soviet Union and Cuba.
Medvedev asked the Caribbean leader to “convey greetings and best wishes to Army General Raul Castro”, of whom he would say: “We spent a lot of time together in different places; the firmness with which he defends Cuba’s positions has always been for us a very serious symbol of how to fight for the independence of a country”.
WITH A FRIEND, WITH A BROTHER
At around 9:00 p.m., the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba held a new meeting with Guennadi Ziuganov, General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, to whom he conveyed greetings from the leader of the Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz.
In the context of the meeting, documents consolidating the ties between the two organizations were initialed, and Díaz-Canel expressed his gratitude for an exchange in which the will to continue strengthening fraternal relations between the two parties was expressed.
To questions from Russian Communication professionals, who are preparing an audiovisual material on the occasion of the 80th birthday of the communist leader, Diaz-Canel stressed that “Ziuganov has a long history of ties with the Cuban Revolution, as a worker, as a representative of the working class of the former Soviet Union, as a Russian communist and also as a leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.
“He has a trajectory of visits to Cuba, of participation in concrete projects that contributed a lot, especially to the development of the industrial branch in our country.
“He is a person who has enjoyed the friendship of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and Army General Raúl Castro Ruz (…). He is a person who understands the Cuban Revolution, who has an enormous commitment to it and above all to the Cuban people, who is very sensitive to Cuba’s problems and who is constantly promoting ideas and actions so that Cuba can get out of the most complex situations with the support of the Russian Federation”.
During the day, the repercussion of the article “Cuba and Russia look with optimism towards the future of bilateral relations”, published in the newspaper Granma, and signed jointly by the foreign ministers of both countries, Serguei V. Lavrov and Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, on the eve of the 60th anniversary of the reestablishment of relations, also came to light.
The text recalled that the exchange between our peoples dates back to the 18th century, when in 1782 the Russian physician Fyodor Karzhavin arrived in the Cuban capital. After living in Cuba for two years, he agreed with many of the principles that would later drive Cubans to fight for independence from the Spanish metropolis. After the triumph of 1959, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz promoted the reestablishment of diplomatic relations, which took place on May 8, 1960.
