New academic year at the university in Sancti Spíritus
A distinct bustle characterizes these days at the José Martí Pérez University of Sancti Spíritus (UNISS) ahead of the 2026–2027 academic year. The term begins on September 1st, with the university welcoming an incoming class of approximately one thousand students.
Dr. Edelvy Bravo Amarante, Rector of the Sancti Spíritus university, elaborates on how the academic year will unfold and what students need to know about the start of classes.
“The academic year will begin with in-person classes for all students residing in the municipality of Sancti Spíritus; students from other areas will receive instruction in a concentrated format—one week per month—with classes held in both morning and afternoon sessions.”
During the remainder of the month, university students will carry out activities assigned by their professors at the University Centers (CUM).
The schedule for these concentrated sessions has been organized as follows:
– Week 1: Faculty of Technical and Economic Sciences (Engineering, Accounting and Finance, and Computer Science degree programs).
– Week 2: Faculty of Agricultural Sciences (Forestry Engineering and Agronomy) and the Faculty of Physical Culture (Physical Culture degree program).
– Week 3: Faculty of Pedagogical Sciences (Education degree program).
– Week 4: Faculty of Humanities (Law, Sociocultural Management, Art, and Spanish degree programs).
Additionally, during the week of September 7–12, all incoming students—regardless of their faculty—will gather simultaneously to participate in orientation, familiarization, and university life induction activities.
