University of Sancti Spíritus readjusts its teaching calendar
In accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education in Cuba, the José Martí Pérez University of Sancti Spíritus is adjusting its academic calendar due to the complex energy situation facing the country.
In this regard, the university administration announced that it has decided to transition to a blended learning model for both undergraduate and graduate programs and has postponed the exams for the first semester of the current academic year until conditions allow.
The second semester of the 2025-2026 academic year will begin on February 16 as planned, but in a distance learning format. Meanwhile, scheduled professional development and community outreach activities will continue in the students’ municipalities of residence.
The statement issued by the UNISS Governing Council adds that the Municipal University Centers will organize, in close coordination with the academic programs, the planning and monitoring of activities to be carried out in each municipality. These centers will reorganize faculty and student structures to ensure the continuity of the educational process for students of this and other universities within the Ministry of Higher Education system.
The Governing Council of the University of Sancti Spíritus, headed by its Rector, Dr. Edelvy Bravo Amarante, urged the university community to stay informed through the various official websites and platforms of the institution. The Council also stated that the university facilities will be protected by security personnel.
