UN condemns the blockade against Cuba for the thirty-third time

The United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday approved, for the thirty-third consecutive time, the resolution presented by Cuba entitled “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.” The proposal received overwhelming support from 165 countries, reaffirming global rejection of a policy that Havana describes as “brutal, extraterritorial and genocidal.”

Before speaking in the debate preceding the vote, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla expressed his solidarity with the people of Jamaica, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic, affected by the recent passage of Hurricane Melissa, which has caused loss of life and severe material damage in the region.
