Trinidad, a city untouched through the centuries (+ photos)

Lost in the mists of time is the exact date of the founding of Cuba’s third town: Santísima Trinidad, established by Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar on the southern coast of the island’s center. Without a fixed date to mark on the calendar, the people of Trinidad celebrates the miracle of the city’s birth on the second weekend of January, a city they venerate with special devotion.

For 512 years, the region has been consolidating its position as a beacon of history, colonial architecture, living traditions, and a profound cultural legacy in a perfect state of preservation, which earned it UNESCO World Heritage status in 1988.
