Transportation in Sancti Spíritus face new challenges in 2026
Transportation in Sancti Spíritus ended 2025 with positive results in the recovery of vehicles, expansion of essential services such as the transport of hemodialysis patients, and the addition of 48 electric minibuses, despite persistent difficulties with resources and maintenance.
The School Transportation business unit recovered 10 of its vehicles last year, allowing for expanded coverage for students, although some buses remained out of service due to a lack of tires and batteries.
Despite the shortages, the transport of hemodialysis patients was guaranteed, moving an average of 53 people daily to the Camilo Cienfuegos Provincial Hospital as a symbol of the social commitment of the Sancti Spíritus transportation sector.
The addition of some 48 electric minibuses in Sancti Spíritus, Trinidad, Cabaiguán, and Yaguajay marked a step toward sustainability by reducing dependence on fossil fuels and providing stability to urban routes.
The distribution of the subsidized food basket was completed on schedule with the support of state-owned and private companies, with 474,600 tons transported, although the lack of trucks remains a structural problem.
Among other findings, it was also revealed that the poor condition of the roads persists, while last year some 223 accidents were recorded, resulting in 24 deaths and 211 injuries, showing a reduction during the summer season.
