Tobacco production shows signs of progress in Sancti Spíritus

With planting about to complete the programmed area and the harvesting of more than 25 percent of the expected crop, the 2024-2025 tobacco campaign is showing signs of recovery in the province of Sancti Spíritus.
This was confirmed by Isidro Hernández Toledo, agricultural director of the Tobacco Collection and Processing Company of the province, who said that by next Friday it is expected to complete the 1,320 hectares planned to be planted in the campaign.
He said that the sowing was extended by the decision of the producers to divide this process in order to take better advantage of the curing capacities and also driven by the stimulation in MLC that governs the tobacco growers and the sufficient support of postures.
He said that, despite the lengthening, the plantations show very good quality and yields according to plan both in the mode of covered tobacco and sun stick, the latter able to stop its decline with about 400 hectares more than in the last season when the technology bottomed out.
In addition to the stimulation in foreign exchange, according to the source, the campaign has had the guarantee of fuel and essential inputs while no significant diseases and pests have been reported in the plantations.
