Tobacco in Sancti Spíritus

In the province of Sancti Spíritus, three companies are responsible for cultivating, processing, and marketing tobacco. However, the final result undoubtedly depends heavily on the collection and processing company, where the entire chain begins: from the nurseries and the plantation to the harvest and processing.

By the end of 2025, tobacco production began to pick up in Sancti Spíritus, with over 1,200 tons collected, representing an increase of almost 600 tons compared to the previous season.

This news is encouraging for tobacco farmers, even though the projected figures were not reached, primarily due to the depletion of water sources in Taguasco, which prevented them from taking advantage of the regrowth from the capped plants.

Currently, some 835 producers cultivate tobacco fields in the province, which occupy a significant area.
