Tobacco farmers in Sancti Spíritus are fulfilling the planting program for the current season

Tobacco farmers in Sancti Spíritus have fulfilled their planting program for the 2025-2026 season.

Isidro Hernández Toledo, agricultural director of the Collection and Processing Company, explained that the commitment was to plant 1,490 hectares of tobacco. “Of that, we planted 1,100 hectares of open-field tobacco, which is where the significant growth is occurring this season. And in the case of shade-grown tobacco, we planted 390 hectares. This season, we have to harvest 1,700 tons, a considerable increase compared to the previous season.”

According to the source, this planting season surpasses the previous one. “We began planting in October, a month in which we had difficulties with rain in the last two years. Secondly, we finished December with 80% of the planned area already planted, something we hadn’t been able to achieve in recent seasons, and this is what truly gives us a good agricultural yield.”
