The sacrifice of producing sugar

The extended sugarcane harvest in recent years has forced the workers at the Melanio Hernández sugar mill to make great efforts and sacrifices to complete repairs and begin the new harvest.

Boilermaker Arturo Harry Martínez is experiencing this hustle and bustle firsthand. With 26 years at the mill, he has been a pillar of the sugar industry’s success in Tuinucú, and he shares his impressions from the production area.

“We’ve worked hard to get through the harvest, and now we’re still pushing forward with all the equipment in the area. The crane broke down, but we have to keep going to meet our commitment to finish on time. Besides, being part of Melanio makes you feel important; it’s an honor. We’ve shone in the sector throughout the country.”
