The Storm Chaser

Miguel García Ruiz graduated as a geophysical engineer more than 30 years ago, but it was in meteorology where he found the true meaning of his existence, as he made his way in a profession that demands absolute sacrifice in order not to let the people down.
“Being a meteorologist is like being a surgeon or a soldier who works tirelessly 24 hours a day and must be alert to provide the most accurate information possible to the people, and even to the authorities of the territory,” he told Radio Sancti Spíritus.
He confesses that forecasting the weather is as difficult as dispensing justice in a ball field because it is a task of vital importance when it comes to safeguarding human lives and economic resources.
Miguel has been in charge of the Provincial Meteorological Center of Sancti Spiritus for 15 years, but he does not like to define himself as a boss, but as a tropical cyclone hunter leading a talented team of professionals who, thanks to their expertise and high sense of duty, provide a much-needed service to society.
They are, quite simply, men and women who are closer to the gods because of their ability to predict the weather.
