The heritage of Sancti Spíritus demands greater care and conservation efforts in 2026
Ensuring that cultural institutions celebrating their 45th and 50th anniversaries in 2026 experience improvements in their comfort and conditions is a priority for the Provincial Heritage Center in Sancti Spíritus.
As is well known, the territory’s network of cultural institutions is not in good structural condition due to the age of the buildings and the long periods without maintenance or restoration. This was acknowledged by Yadira Bernal, head of heritage management in the province.
“We have an action plan to support our museums, with a program of activities designed to honor all the institutions celebrating anniversaries this year. We also have the 130th anniversary of Serafín Sánchez, and we have already planned conservation work on the monument, as well as restorations in other cases,” Bernal explained.
Currently, in Sancti Spíritus, five buildings designated as monuments show significant signs of deterioration. Among them, the iconic Manaca-Iznaga Tower must be addressed in the coming hours, while the rest await urgent action to prevent their deterioration.
