The fishing industry in Sancti Spíritus increases its production

In celebration of the Fishing Industry Worker, which is celebrated  on April 8, Sancti Spíritus closed  this month with more than 12 tons of fish from private commercial fishing destined for processing for various destinations.

These quantities were received and processed through cooperation agreements with other entities and with private fishermen.

Rosaida Soto Sarduy, the entity’s director general, points out: “This is an achievement because for more than six months, private commercial fishermen hadn’t delivered more than four tons in a month. This is due to the fuel shortage and the complex conditions caused by power outages; it’s very difficult to go fishing in that context.”

During 2026, close cooperation has been established with the fishermen, and the sale of fishing gear (nets, hooks, and nylon) necessary to boost these catches has been promoted.

In addition, an incentive system has been established, as well as attractive purchase prices to prevent the diversion of production to the informal market and to ensure that all fish is delivered to the industry.
