Synchronized first of planned solar parks for isolated rural communities in Sancti Spíritus
The Renewable Energy Sources project, supporting local development in conjunction with the Sancti Spíritus Electric Company, recently synchronized the first of six planned photovoltaic parks for isolated rural communities with the commissioning of an autonomous solar system in Guaraná, in the municipality of Fomento.
According to Ernesto Luis Barrera Cardoso, who is leading the project, the installation marks a new step forward in rural electrification in Cuba through the use of clean and sustainable energy in remote areas of the country.
As Barrera Cardoso himself stated, “This was a community that relied on a makeshift power line, a very poor-quality one. Refrigerators and household appliances frequently broke down due to the voltage instability. Based on this, electrification alternatives were designed. Six alternatives were developed for these communities to determine the optimal option.”
According to Barrera Cardoso, the system installed in Guaraná has a power of more than 24 kW and directly benefits about 24 homes.
