Strengthening Strategy for Better Environmental Management in Sancti Spíritus

As part of Sancti Spíritus’ Territorial Environmental Strategy, actions are being carried out to promote sustainable forest management and recover degraded areas.

In recent times, forest cover has increased, albeit minimally, with an increase of 355 hectares, mainly of natural forests.

Also, 70 hectares of mangroves and 415 hectares of degraded forests have been recovered.

In addition, forest management has been improved in specialized companies and work has been done to increase the efficient use of water resources in the territory.

However, some sectors, such as agriculture, have higher than planned water consumption rates. On the other hand, in the hotel industry, the programmed water yield has been exceeded, which is negatively evaluated.

In summary, environmental strategies for forest management and better water use in Sancti Spíritus are being strengthened.
