Solar energy supports health services in Sancti Spíritus
The installation of photovoltaic systems in healthcare facilities is among the measures evaluated by the Sancti Spíritus Provincial Government Council as part of a strategy to maintain priority services amidst the challenging energy situation.
As of the end of August, the health sector had 56 installed photovoltaic systems. This coverage extends to three hospitals, all 23 polyclinics, doctors’ offices with extended services, nursing homes, maternity homes, the Provincial Center for Medical Genetics, and municipal inpatient wards.
For September, 14 new kits were allocated for nine doctors’ offices with extended services, the Stomatology Department at the Sancti Spíritus South Polyclinic, the Provincial Blood Bank, and the “Reparador de Sueños” (Dream Mender) Psychopedagogical Center.
Priorities submitted to the Ministry of Energy and Mines include the municipal hospitals of Trinidad (“Tomás Carrera”), Yaguajay (“Joaquín Paneca”), and Fomento.
Also included are the “Faustino Pérez” Provincial Rehabilitation Hospital, the Cabaiguán inpatient ward, and other facilities within the maternal and child health network.
Plans are in place to expand solar generation capacity at polyclinics to support laboratories, vaccination centers, and dental clinics.
Additionally, a request was made for the allocation of eight ambulances equipped with renewable energy systems—at least one for each municipality.
