Sancti Spíritus reaps national awards for its innovative approach to journalism

The province of Sancti Spíritus shone brightly at the 6th Juan García Luis National Press Festival, held from January 21 to 23 of this year in Havana, receiving several awards recognizing excellence, innovation, and a commitment to journalism that engages with its audience and is grounded in academic rigor.

In a day marked by professional exchange and reflection on the future of the profession, Radio Sancti Spíritus was honored with the Juan Antonio Borrego Journalism Innovation Award for its project “Radio Sancti Spíritus App and Social Listening in Public Media Management.” This pioneering initiative, which integrates mobile technologies and citizen perception analysis, reaffirms the provincial station’s commitment to close, dynamic, and participatory communication.

In addition, the station received a Special Award from the Institute of Information and Social Communication (ICS), in recognition of its institutional trajectory and its ability to creatively adapt to the new communication challenges of the digital environment.

For its part, the Escambray newspaper received two important distinctions: the Award for Best Academic Work Contributing to the Cuban Press Model and the Special Award from the Faculty of Communication at the University of Havana, both granted to its project “From Linotype to Business Center.” This initiative creates a symbolic and functional bridge between the newspaper’s editorial history and its current transformation into a comprehensive management center, where editorial, technological, economic, and innovation processes converge, all aimed at strengthening its social authority, credibility, and alignment with public policies in the new Cuban context.

These four awards given at the Festival not only honor the daily efforts of journalists, editors, technicians and cultural managers of Sancti Spíritus, but also reaffirm the role of the provincial press as a living space for dialogue, innovation and public service in times of media transformation.
