Sancti Spíritus Gallery exhibits the art of thread and needlework

The exhibition “Tejidos Paralelos” (Parallel Weavings), a tribute to the art of thread and needle in the tradition, led by renowned artist Yudith Vidal-Faife and the project “Entre Hilos, Alas y Pinceles” (Between Threads, Wings and Brushes), is on display at the Oscar Fernández Morera Art Gallery. This project brings together for the first time three artistic expressions: intervened photography, tapestries (on jute with cotton thread, hand-embroidered and unraveled) and soft sculptures.

The exhibition is a dialogue between traditional and contemporary techniques, achieving new visual and aesthetic approaches. In addition, it has the collaboration of students and teachers from the Fernando Aguado Workshop School of the Third Villa de Cuba, who have contributed to the design and recycling of textile materials.

This work not only explores the Hispanic, aboriginal and Afro-American cultural legacy of Cuba, but also magnifies the traditional elements of thread and needle, transforming them into imposing pieces full of symbolism.
