Rio Zaza Dairy Products immersed in energy matrix change

The Río Zaza Dairy Products Company in Sancti Spíritus is developing an energy matrix change program aimed at reducing costs, becoming independent of the National Electrical System, and ensuring the quality of its products.

According to the company’s general manager, Alberto Cañizares Rodríguez, the process began with converting diesel-powered boilers to fuel oil in order to lower expenses and reactivate currently idled units.

Río Zaza is also involved in installing solar panels at the El Valle Basic Business Unit (UEB) in Trinidad, with an approved project and financing in process. At the Pasteurization Plant, the old boiler is being replaced with a new one acquired this year.

Furthermore, thanks to a donation from the Uruguayan Embassy in Cuba, the La Sierpe and Mérida units in Yaguajay will benefit from a similar conversion through a contract with the Copextel Company in the province.

Solar energy installations are also planned for the Administrative Unit and the Ice Cream Plant, although the Pasteurization Plant cannot be disconnected due to the power of its ammonia compressors.

All of this effort must be completed before the end of 2026, because without the energy transition, the dairy plant, also known as Lácteo Espirituano, will not be able to move forward. These solutions are expected to reactivate production and revitalize an industry essential to the community.
