Rice harvesting campaign begins in Sur del Jíbaro
With its sights set on the first 7,000 quintals of wet paddy rice in the ripening stage in the fields, the Las Nuevas Basic Unit of Cooperative Production, part of the Sur del Jíbaro Company in La Sierpe, officially began its winter rice harvest campaign.
Its production will be used for certified seed to ensure planting programs with the Selección 1 variety, which is in high demand by producers in both the conventional and cooperative smallholder sectors.
For the start of this winter rice harvest campaign, the Las Nuevas UBPC deployed its first three harvesters and a sufficient fleet of tractors, both with reserves for the peak harvest periods.
As in the previous rice year, the aforementioned production unit is working in a production chain with the MSME Progreso Agropecuario, which provided the costly technological packages for cultivation.
The estimated cold rice campaign at UBPC Las Nuevas is about three thousand tons of seed sent to the Los Españoles processing industry with agricultural yields in the order of four tons per hectare.
