Belonging to the Jobo Rosado Flora and Fauna Unit, Rancho Querete opened its doors this summer despite the severity of the drought. Its crystal-clear, cool waters blend in perfect harmony with the vegetation in a mountainous setting where the heat has no place.
Along with healthy recreation, environmental stewardship is promoted, according to René Cuba Castillo, project program technician for the area and head of the tourism and conservation team.
“Well, the objective is care within the protected area. Public use areas within a protected area always have regulations. This is explained to every visitor who enters the facility, where collecting plants is prohibited, and waste, from any part of the area, must be disposed of in specific, marked areas.”
A tour of the area confirms cleanliness, organization, and safety measures. In the swimming areas, the presence of six lifeguards ensures compliance with the established rules for using the facility. Despite limited resources, the workers at this organization strive to provide quality service at their facilities, says Carlos Yelian, general manager.
