Playground to come to life thanks to partnership between economic stakeholders
The playground in the Colón People’s Council area is set to be revitalized thanks to a partnership between the Municipal Public Services agency and a local MSME from Sancti Spíritus.
The site, which had fallen into disrepair and practically lost its original community purpose, is now being brought back to life.
Norbelis González Cepeda, director of the Municipal Public Services Company, explained: “We decided to start by revitalizing the Colón playground. To begin with, it is a large park divided into two sections. The area featuring the swings and slides is in a state of total disrepair. Restoring them requires significant amounts of steel and welding electrodes—materials the company cannot easily acquire because they must be purchased with foreign currency, which we do not generate. Consequently, through this partnership with the MSME, they will undertake the repair of that equipment.”
Addressing community concerns, the official clarified the project’s social nature: “This initiative is driven by both economic and social goals, primarily focused on our children’s enjoyment. It is clear that there will be a charge for the use of imported equipment—specifically the inflatables and similar items. However, the traditional playground equipment remains free of charge; there is no fee for using it.”
