People from Sancti Spíritus will soon be able to track the ecomobiles

An integral part of daily life for residents of Sancti Spíritus, Trinidad, Yaguajay, and Cabaiguán areas, the ecomóviles—the iconic yellow cars bearing the seals of this region—will soon be controllable with the click of a button.

The idea for the Urbano app arose from a task undertaken by the science and sustainability project focused on the energy transition of transportation, explains Bryan Rolando Lazval Bello, one of the app’s developers.

“Through discussions with the community, we realized that there was no way for people who use the service daily in the city to have a real-time view of the ecomóviles’ location, availability, or any changes to the service. Furthermore, the company that operates these vehicles also lacks a system to visualize them in real time or collect route data, etc., to make informed decisions about improving service efficiency.”

Currently, the application is receiving its final touches from four young people and a professor from the University of Sancti Spíritus. It has also received support from the Provincial People’s Power Transportation Administration and the National Bus Company.
