Health authorities in Sancti Spíritus urged people to go promptly to health care facilities in case of fever, diarrhea, vomiting, general malaise, as well as muscular, head and joint pains, in view of the circulation of the Oropouche virus in this central Cuban territory.

Dr. Yurién Negrín Calvo, deputy director of Epidemiology at the Provincial Center of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology (CPHEM), said that the first cases of Sancti Spiritus patients diagnosed with the disease, based on the study of samples sent and analyzed at the national reference laboratory of the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK) in Havana, were reported, specifically, in the Santa Lucía Popular Council, belonging to health area number 1, in Cabaiguán, and in Colón, in the southern area, in the capital city.
