New sentinel site to strengthen epidemiological surveillance of key populations
Health authorities in Sancti Spíritus recently approved the establishment of a new sentinel site at the South Polyclinic to strengthen epidemiological surveillance of syphilis among key populations in the area.
According to Dayana Cardoso García, head of the municipality’s STI, HIV, and hepatitis program, this initiative will expand access to diagnostic testing, facilitate early case identification, and ensure more effective follow-up for individuals at higher risk of contracting this sexually transmitted infection.
The specialist believes the measure will enable a faster response to the detection of new cases and noted that these strategies are funded by various international organizations.
The opening of this site marks a significant step in controlling the disease and reinforces the public health sector’s commitment to prevention, timely diagnosis, and comprehensive care for the population.
