New Pioneers receive their insignia in Sancti Spíritus
In keeping with tradition, every October 8th across the Cuban archipelago, first-grade children from various schools join the ranks of the José Martí Pioneers Organization (OPJM)—an event that also marks the start of the tribute period honoring Camilo and Che in Sancti Spíritus.
This school year, a total of 3,345 students in the province are receiving the emblem identifying them as “Moncadista Pioneers,” according to Rosa Maite González Macola, Head of the Primary Education Department at the Sancti Spíritus General Directorate of Education.
She further noted that special morning assemblies were held at schools across the province, allowing parents, close relatives, and teachers to tie the blue neckerchiefs around the children’s necks; the province’s main ceremony took place at the Roberto Quesada Educational Institution in the provincial capital.
