Raw materials collection for recycling in Sancti Spíritus municipalities
According to Osmany Guevara Portales, Deputy Director of Development for the Sancti Spíritus Provincial Raw Material Recovery Company, municipal basic recycling units play a pivotal role in sourcing materials for the organization.
These units initiate the recycling process at the municipal level. From there, they drive initiatives to increase material purchases from the public and subsequently integrate those materials into the production cycle.
Material collection centers remain key sites for receiving recoverable waste, relying on direct community participation.
This effort is complemented by mobile sales operations in local neighborhoods and the recovery of raw materials from self-employed workers—alternatives that expand collection capacity throughout the week.
Operations are bolstered on Saturdays by “Recycle My Neighborhood” (*Reciclo mi barrio*) events; this initiative fosters public participation and helps achieve significant volumes of raw material purchases.
