José Martí: Funeral Route

After the fall of José Martí in combat in Dos Ríos, Oriente, on May 19, 1895, the remains of the Apostle of Independence were transferred, under strong protection, to Santiago de Cuba by indications of the Spanish authorities; a journey in which insurrectionist troops tried to rescue the corpse in more than one opportunity.

EL JOBO (FINCA DEMAJAGUAL): On the night of May 19, the Spanish column makes a stop at this site; the corpse of the Master is dropped next to a jobo.
