This Saturday, June 21st, Sancti Spíritus, like the rest of the country, celebrates Forestry Workers’ Day. This idea was born in 1975 to coincide with the beginning of summer and the rainiest month in Cuba, the perfect time to take seedlings to the fields and plant them, ensuring they germinate as optimally as possible.

Noel Carballo González, director of the Sancti Spiritus Agroforestry Company, gave this radio station details of the ideas conceived for this event.

“In honor of June 21st, Forestry Workers’ Day, various activities related to planting plantations, maintenance, and nursery activities are organized and planned at the company and all its core business units in the different municipalities.

A large-scale planting is always organized in one of the municipalities, almost always here in Sancti Spiritus, because it is close to the company, where we all participate, along with a group of workers representing the municipalities.

The Sancti Spiritus agroforestry company manages an area of approximately 78,000 hectares, where timber-producing forests are located for soil, flora, and fauna conservation, as well as protected areas.
