Economic and social transformations: an opportunity to develop tourism activity

In line with the opportunities offered by the transformations approved by the Cuban government, the tourism sector in Sancti Spíritus is implementing a series of actions aimed at revitalizing this economic activity, which has a significant impact on territorial revenues.

The proposals include the incorporation of new business models, investments, digitalization, international promotion of Cuban brands, and governance.

According to Yordanis Fernández Alonso, the delegate of the Minister of Tourism in the province of Sancti Spíritus, the intention is to take advantage of the new scenario to enhance products and services with higher quality.

Work is already underway on two important proposals: the declaration of the Historic Center of Trinidad and the Valley of the Sugar Mills as a zone of preferential tourist use, and the designation of La Canchánchara, an emblematic site in this destination, as an international franchise.

Fernández Alonso emphasized that all the transformations are intended to contribute to the development of the sector in the province.

“Our sector is working every day to continue developing, because more than 50 percent of the income in this region depends on tourism. And we need that income to benefit the people, to be reflected in their salaries. I believe we all need to continue contributing to and investing in tourism development.”
