Dr. Miguel Oviedo among the voices recounting the pandemic in Cuba

The name of Dr. Miguel Oviedo Jiménez a second-degree specialist in Anatomic Pathology has been included in a recently presented work that preserves the experiences of Cuban health professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Among the dozens of testimonies collected across the country, his is one of only two representing Sancti Spíritus, capturing the events experienced from the leadership position at the Camilo Cienfuegos Provincial Hospital.

This recognition comes at a time when ambulances no longer rush in with the frequency seen in those days, and calm has returned to the hospital corridors. Yet, for the man who led the province’s main healthcare facility during the most critical phase of the health emergency, the pandemic is not merely a thing of the past; it remains in his memory as a succession of urgent decisions, irreparable losses, and lives saved through the collective effort of the staff.
