Díaz-Canel calls for strengthening community work in the face of current challenges

The need to strengthen community-based work as a prerequisite for addressing current imperatives was a key point highlighted by Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez—First Secretary of the Party’s Central Committee and President of the Republic—during the second broadcast of “Criterio Compartido” (Shared Views), a citizen-engagement program that fosters dialogue and reflection on issues of national interest.

In his exchange with the audience, Díaz-Canel called for a sensitive approach to the work at hand and noted that a fundamental challenge lies in successfully implementing economic and social transformations at the community level.

He also emphasized the importance of fostering citizen participation and grassroots oversight to address the country’s current situation. He underscored the urgent need to streamline operations and eliminate bureaucratic red tape in order to promptly resolve issues facing the population—problems that can be addressed within the community itself.

The Cuban president opened Wednesday’s broadcast on Radio Rebelde by highlighting the work done to address concerns raised during the previous program. He expressed his gratitude to those who have reached out to the show, noting that the program’s agenda is taking shape based on their questions and concerns.

“We have nearly finalized a list of topics to address in upcoming broadcasts. There has been a tremendous effort by Party and government institutions, as well as local authorities, to provide answers,” the Head of State emphasized on *Criterio Compartido*.

We are here to share perspectives. This is a week that stirs up particular emotions. Yesterday, I met with the families of the victims of the Barbados crime. They sought to kill hope, to kill the future. It remains a source of outrage.

The fundamental issues raised in calls from the public focus on basic services, popular participation and oversight, social equity, and food production, the Cuban leader noted.

Thanks to public participation, several key topics have been identified for discussion in future broadcasts, including basic services—such as water and electricity—economic justice, citizen participation, social equity, food production, and the defense of national sovereignty, the Cuban President emphasized.

“This is a democratic exercise rooted in respect for the people; we are learning from the people, and as a people, we are seeking solutions.”
