Anniversary of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba in Sancti Spíritus

UNEAC’s 46-year history has at least served to highlight the figures of many important figures in Sancti Spíritus culture. I don’t mean to say that not all of them were recognized, because, for example, one of the most important figures in Cuban culture is Rafael Gómez Mayea, known as Teofilito, and he was not a member of UNEAC.

Juan Eduardo Bernal Echemendía, vice president of the Provincial Committee of the Union of Writers and Artists in Sancti Spíritus, knows well that October 5, 1979, marked the history of this province.

“What made the establishment of UNEAC possible was precisely the opening of a new political and economic model in Cuba. UNEAC served 46 years ago to respect, protect, and promote the figures and achievements of that talent. And I believe that consolidating that purpose has been very important.” And 46 years have also served to strengthen the concept of the principle of unity in all, toward all, and with all the cultural institutions in the territory.”

A member of the organization’s current leadership in Sancti Spíritus, he is aware of the many urgent issues at the top of the Provincial Committee’s agenda.
