A tribute to poetry in Sancti Spíritus

Esbértido Rosendi, dubbed the City’s Poet years ago, was honored during the National Poetry Day, an event that concludes this Sunday in Sancti Spíritus.

The renowned author was one of the driving forces behind the event, which brings together writers and researchers from across the country each year, explained Sayli Alba Álvarez, director of the Raúl Ferrer Provincial Center for Literary Promotion.

The gathering recognized not only his merit as a writer but also his role as a promoter of the work of many generations of Sancti Spíritus residents.

“This year, we are joined by authors from Guantánamo, Santiago de Cuba, Camagüey, and Mayabeque,” ​​she noted.

The event’s program includes lectures, panels, and book presentations at educational and cultural institutions, as well as workplaces, enlivened by local musical talent.

“This Saturday, we will have the opportunity to speak with Yudit Vidal Faife, who has compiled in her book the oldest stitches that lend prestige to the needle and thread tradition in Trinidad. We will also pay tribute to Manuel González Busto’s *Cartas a Giselle* through music,” the source specified.

The National Poetry Festival will conclude in Sancti Spíritus with a gathering of craftspeople, a project championed by the Entre hilos, alas y pinceles (Between Threads, Wings, and Brushes) initiative, led by Vidal Faife.

“The closing ceremony will feature songs dedicated to the décima and the punto.” The melodies of the Trinidadian folk songs will be heard. In addition, the calls for entries for the next edition and the Raúl Ferrer Poetry Prize will be presented, he concluded.
