A life dedicated to Special Education
Fidel García Jacomino has dedicated more than 40 years to Special Education in the province of Sancti Spíritus, a profession to which he has devoted his best efforts.
He graduated in 1981 from the former Rafael María de Mendive Teacher Training School in this city, now the José Martí University of Sancti Spíritus.
What motivated him to choose this noble profession?
“I entered the Teacher Training School after finishing sixth grade, when I was part of the ‘Guerrillas of Teaching’ group, and that’s where my motivation for the noble task of educating was born.”
Once there, after five years, I graduated as a Primary School Teacher. We were offered several programs that were studied in Havana at the time, and among them was Speech Therapy, which was the one I liked the most because it dealt with language and communication disorders.
I spent two years in the nation’s capital where I became a speech therapist. I returned to Sancti Spíritus and continued my university studies through a six-year directed course in Santa Clara, obtaining my bachelor’s degree. I continued my professional development until I reached the level of Master of Science in Education. It has been a constant process of self-improvement.
