Neighborhood and wholesale markets, light dining options, and support for vulnerable groups in Sancti Spíritus
Minister of Domestic Trade Betsy Díaz Velázquez met with executives and officials in Sancti Spíritus to analyze the transformations the sector is undergoing, in line with the country’s economic and social changes.
As part of a nationwide tour to evaluate new domestic trade projects, the minister emphasized the importance of advancing business decentralization by granting greater autonomy to local territories.
She also stressed that new initiatives must center on social responsibility, paying special attention to vulnerable families in each municipality.
Among the proposals analyzed are the Supply Markets, which reorganize wholesale trade to allow direct access for both individuals and legal entities, and Neighborhood Markets, which bring products closer to the population through the participation of companies and economic actors, among others.
Efforts are also underway to boost the fixed and mobile light-dining network while refining the Family Care System, transitioning from the rationed basket model toward controlled sales methods and providing greater support to vulnerable individuals.
In her remarks, Díaz Velázquez offered ideas for diversifying the range of food options available in popular venues, noting that a practical alternative is the sale of cold cuts and light snacks at mobile, quick-service outlets offering a variety of products.
She highlighted the “Las Delicias de La Rotonda” cafeteria—a business unit in the city of Sancti Spíritus—and other establishments in the municipality of Taguasco as notable examples where new approaches to customer service that bring operations closer to the community are being piloted.
In her closing remarks, Betsy Díaz Velázquez reiterated that the domestic trade sector will not abandon its social responsibility; it must strengthen partnerships with the non-state sector and leverage new digital channels to ensure services that are more accessible and efficient for the public.
