Boarding points: an alternative to transport limitations
The fuel crisis has brought much of the state-run transport system in Sancti Spíritus to a standstill. However, designated pickup points have become an essential alternative for residents needing to travel amidst the scarcity of circulating vehicles.
At the “Rotonda” (Roundabout) stop heading toward Cabaiguán, the pickup of passengers by state-owned vehicles is organized on a daily basis. We met Migdalia Pulido Romero, a community inspector, who explained how the system operates despite the current difficulties.
“Even though there are few vehicles on the road, they all pull into this pickup point. Drivers take passengers to destinations like Chambelón, the highway, or Los Laureles; the people getting rides are the same ones every day—local workers who commute within the city.”
