Sancti Spíritus will join the rest of Cuba in singing a song in tribute to Fidel
At 10:00 a.m. on August 13, the song “Yo Soy Fidel” will be heard simultaneously across the country. Sancti Spíritus is no exception; the province is joining this tribute organized by the Cuban Music Institute, featuring performances by the Provincial Concert Band and the Vocal Imago choir.
Maestro Sander Morgado, director of the renowned choral group, is currently putting the finishing touches on the piece—composed by Claudio Casal, with musical arrangements by Rafael Rodríguez and orchestration by Conrado Monier, a maestro from Guantánamo.
“We will perform it at the entrance of the Sancti Spíritus House of Culture, and again in the evening at a gala dedicated to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz. The soloists will be Yasmín Melián and myself, Sander Morgado.”
Both are teachers at the Ernesto Lecuona Art School—the only arts education institution in Sancti Spíritus and a product of the policies championed by Fidel Castro since the very triumph of the Revolution. Consequently, this event serves as a fitting tribute from the school’s faculty and students.
“The concert band also includes arts students, recent graduates, and teachers from the Ernesto Lecuona Art School.”
In Trinidad and Yaguajay, soloists from both areas will also perform “Yo Soy Fidel” alongside their respective bands.
