Javier Alejandro Vega wins bronze at Central American Games
Javier Alejandro Vega a native of Sancti Spíritus along with Hugo Franco and Iván Pérez, members of the Cuban recurve archery team, won the bronze medal; this marked the first medal for the delegation from the “Land of the Yayabo” at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games (Dominican Republic 2026).
The team from the largest of the Antilles overcame a 3-1 deficit against Guatemala; in a spectacular comeback, they secured third place with a 5-3 victory, thereby clinching Cuba’s first archery medal of the games.
En route to the bronze, the Cuban team defeated El Salvador 6-2 in the quarterfinals; they subsequently lost 6-2 in the semifinals to a strong Mexican squad, but ultimately prevailed over the Guatemalan team in the bronze-medal match.
