Meteoro 2026 strengthened disaster preparedness in Sancti Spíritus
Sancti Spíritus conducted the “Meteoro 2026” disaster risk reduction exercise to strengthen the preparedness of command bodies and the community for natural, technological, and health-related hazards.
Led by the president of the Provincial Defense Council, Deivy Pérez Martín, and the vice president, Alexis Lorente Jiménez, the exercise included activities aimed at reducing risks and vulnerabilities, as well as testing the measures planned for response and recovery from potential disasters.
As part of the program, a simulated fire evacuation drill was conducted at a power plant, accompanied by rescue and first aid demonstrations.
Participating authorities and agencies also evaluated cooperation among the various structures and entities, as well as the experience gained from responding to events that have affected the province in recent years.
The “Meteoro 2026” disaster risk reduction exercise concluded in Sancti Spíritus with assessments of its implementation, the quality of the activities carried out, the use of available resources, and proposals for improving the disaster risk reduction process.
