Mercedes Ramírez: a vocation that allows no pauses or shortcuts
Mercedes Lázara Ramírez Cruz didn’t enter the court system in the province of Sancti Spíritus seeking the limelight, but rather with a willingness to learn and uphold justice beyond mere sentences.
Today, four decades later, her story represents that of a woman who has dedicated herself entirely to a vocation that allows no pauses or shortcuts. “Right now, I have several personal issues with my mother, who is 100 years old, almost 101. I’m the only daughter. I’m primarily responsible for her care, but I get dressed and come to court, and for me, it’s like a pill that calms me. I feel very good; it’s part of my life. I don’t know what will happen when the time comes for me to decide I can no longer continue. But for me, the court system is my life.”
For several years now, Mercedes has been the head of the Cadre Department of the Provincial People’s Court of Sancti Spíritus, a responsibility that transcends the administrative to place her at the very core where those who have the mission of administering justice are prepared and supported.
