Félix B. Caignet Award 2026: Sancti Spíritus filmmaker Alien Fernández Martínez wins awards in television editing
Audiovisual productions from Sancti Spíritus continue to garner national recognition. Filmmaker Alien Fernández Martínez, of Audiovisuales Escambray, won the Best Editing award at the 16th Félix B. Caignet Competition, organized by the Provincial Committee of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) in Santiago de Cuba.
The award was given for his work on the report “One Hundred Doors Closed to Sancti Spíritus,” by journalist Lisandra Gómez Guerra. This piece highlights the precarious state of the Sancti Spíritus Museum of Colonial Art and the mismanagement that has kept this heritage institution closed for years.
The competition, held between March 27 and 31, was dedicated to the centennial of Fidel Castro Ruz’s birth, the 65th anniversary of UNEAC, and the memory of the Santiago-born writer José Soler Puig. For five days, the contest reaffirmed its role as a national platform of excellence for Cuban radio and television.
